Capacity Building & Leadership Development Programme

Empowering families means recognizing and strengthening the rights, strengths, knowledge and abilities they already possess. When families understand their rights and build their collective capacity, they become effective partners, advocates and agents of change.

Within every parent organization, there are individuals who demonstrate commitment, initiative and the ability to influence positive change. PARIVAAR-SAHYADRI seeks to identify and nurture these emerging leaders and equip them with the knowledge, skills and resources required to lead effectively at multiple levels:

• Personal leadership – building confidence, self-awareness, communication and decision-making.

• Family and community leadership – in strengthening collective participation.

• Institutional relationships – engaging with schools, rehabilitation services, NGOs and the rest.

• Public and government engagement – developing a bond with government and public institutions.

• Policy and advocacy – implemeting laws, rights, schemes and entitlements and advocacy

• Vision building – helping parent organisations develop action plans for the future.

• Digital leadership – digital platforms for communication, awareness, networking and advocacy.

• Sustainable leadership – developing second-line leadership, individual leaders to an organization.

PARIVAAR-SAHYADRI supports emerging leaders to take meaningful responsibility within their parent organisations and contribute to stronger advocacy at the local, district and state levels.

The ultimate goal is to build a strong, leadership movement that can improve services for the rights of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (PwIDD).
